     Thanks to those who responded to me.  One person
said it sounded similar to a system she had once worked with
and another suggested a visual-resources listserv to post to.

     But, the *best* response was a phone call I received
this morning from the author himself . . . the very person
who worked here years ago and, in fact, *did* create
the system we're still using today.  :-)
