the Fine Arts Library at Michigan
State University in East Lansing, Michigan.
The Fine Arts Library is located on the fourth
floor west wing of the Main Library Building.
Public parking is available at Spartan Stadium
across the footbridge from the Main Library.

Guest Speaker

Susan Allen, Director of Libraries and
Media Services at Kalamazoo College,
will speak on "Preventing Theft in
Academic Libraries and Special Collections."
By an unusual set of circumstances, Mrs.
Allen became a key witness in a rare book
theft case that rocked the tranquility of the
library community early in the 1990s.
Subsequently, she chaired the Security
Committee of the Rare Books and
Manuscripts Section of the American Library
Association, and she established the Library
Security Officer Listserv for academic and
research libraries.


Museum Exhibit

The MSU Museum's exhibit, "Death in
America: Ritual and Memorial"
focuses on nineteenth and twentieth
century American death and funerary
practices.  It illustrates death-related rituals
and material culture, including death
announcements, funeral ceremonies,
memorial photography, mourning dress, and
cemetery tombstones. It compares past and
present practices and details how these
practices vary among ethnic groups.
