Dear all,

In February 2024, Librarians and Archivists with Palestine published a report titled "Israeli Damage to Archives, Libraries, and Museums in Gaza, October 2023–January 2024<https://librarianswithpalestine.org/gaza-report-2024/>," which includes "a partial list of archives, libraries, and museums in Gaza that have been destroyed, damaged, or looted by Israeli armed forces since October 7, 2023." The report also includes information about Gazan librarians and archivists who have been killed during the conflict. The report's authors emphasize that "the intentional destruction of cultural heritage has been recognized as a war crime and prosecuted in the International Criminal Court."

In sharing this report with ARLIS/NA members, the APPC affirms our organization's commitment to advocating for cultural heritage workers, to the preservation of cultural heritage collections, and to advancing social justice. The report underlines the immense toll that war takes not only on everyday peoples' lives, but on communities' abilities to preserve and share their stories and legacies.

Best,
Sal Hamerman (they/them)
Advocacy & Public Policy Committee Chair, 2023-2024
