Dear Members of the Southern California Chapter,

Let us all congratulate Lauren Haberstock, the winner of the 2024 ARLIS/NA SoCal Chapter Judith A. Hoffberg Travel Award!

Lauren Haberstock works as the Director of the Genesis Lab Maker Space and Academic Center for Excellence and Librarian for Emerging Technologies and Digital Projects at Pepperdine Libraries. She completed her undergraduate degree at Pepperdine University, receiving a BA in International Studies, and holds an MLIS in Library and Information Sciences from the University of Arizona. Her research interests include emerging technologies in higher education, decolonizing methodologies, and design. 

In her current role at Pepperdine University, Haberstock directs the Genesis Lab, a dynamic makerspace that offers students, faculty, and staff access to 3D printing and design, virtual reality, 2D design, and space to create and collaborate together. She also works with faculty and students to integrate emerging technologies like virtual reality and 3D printing into their curriculum, academic practice, and research.

At the 2024 ARLIS/NA conference in Pittsburgh, Lauren will serve on a panel discussing artificial intelligence programming initiatives, where she will present on the “AI Conversation Series,” a discussion-oriented event series she developed at Pepperdine Libraries. Additionally, Lauren will host a roundtable discussion on creative spaces in libraries.

The award will be presented during the Southern California Chapter Meeting.
