Dear ARLIS/NA Colleagues,

On Thursday, January 25th, we’ll be hosting an edit-a-thon focused on improving caption files associated with Emilee Mathews’ Art Librarianship OER project. This event will run from 1-4pm EST over Zoom. You can register here<https://tennessee.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZYrceCrrD8tGtaliJHsG2Z2a3-iYf03tPWq>. Many members of the Society contributed to these videos in 2017. They document the experiences of art librarians from a variety of career longevity perspectives, chief responsibilities, and types of work environments for an online art librarianship class offered in 2018.

Our current goal is to share this important knowledge with the profession to widen the opportunity for anyone interested in learning more about art librarianship and its specific considerations. They should prove particularly useful to those who find themselves in art librarian leadership roles early in their careers, but they will be helpful to anyone interested in art librarianship or even someone who might be considering teaching an art librarianship class.

In order to make this content accessible, we need to provide edited caption files for the videos. For the edit-a-thon, you’ll work with existing automatically generated caption files that are approximately 80% accurate. The goal will be to get these to 100% so that ARLIS/NA can make the videos publicly available on the ARLIS/NA Kaltura Channel<https://mediaspace.msu.edu/channel/Art+Libraries+Society+of+North+America/208298113>. Some of them have edited transcripts created by ARLISNAP members in 2019; in which case, the task would be to align the transcript with the timestamps in the caption file.

You’re welcome to come and go as you please during the edit-a-thon. We will provide a brief training at the start of the event but can repeat this at any time. In addition, for anyone interested in helping asynchronously outside of the event, do get in touch ([log in to unmask]). A spreadsheet of videos to be edited can be found here - https://bit.ly/ArtLibInterviews

Thanks,
Meredith Hale and Emilee Mathews
