Libraries want to recover valuable shelf space but find it painful to see magazines thrown away, even if they’ve not been accessed for decades.  The nonprofit USModernist archiving project solves that dilemma and gives architecture and design magazines new, text-searchable, online life – with free open access.

We’re looking to acquire California Arts and Architecture 1920-1944 and Sunset Magazine 1921-1949.  If your institution’s copies have not been accessed for decades, maybe it’s time to move them forward.  We pay for shipping!

Major donors include: Pei Cobb Freed, the Smithsonian Institution, UNC-Greensboro, Paul Rudolph Institute, University of Hawai'i Manoa, Atomic Ranch, AIA National, Savannah College of Art and Design, Palm Springs Museum of Art, Cranbrook, Baltimore Museum of Art, Minneapolis College of Art and Design, Robert Keil, Julie Taylor, Michael Raso, and IIT.

Kind regards,

George
