In 1983, the National Women’s Studies Association Conference celebrated its 5th anniversary on the campus of The Ohio State University. Multiple cultural events were coordinated in conjunction with the conference. One of these, the exhibition All’s Fair: Love and War in New Feminist Art, was guest curated by noted feminist art critic, curator and scholar Lucy Lippard. Twenty feminist artists (including two artist collaborations) were put together in one exhibition at the Hoyt Sherman Gallery in Sullivant Hall. Amongst those was Tomie Arai, a public artist who continues to create socially conscious art today.

Join us for a virtually moderated conversation between Lucy Lippard and Tomie Arai, sharing their thoughts on the legacy and future of feminist art. Erina Duganne, Professor of Art History at Texas State University and Marissa Vigneault, Associate Professor of Art History at Utah State University, will moderate.

This hybrid program is free and open to the public. Lucy and Tomie’s conversation will be held over Zoom. Participants can join remotely or gather to view the program and enjoy refreshments in Thompson Library, Room 150. After the talk, there will be a gallery walkthrough with Abject Object<https://library.osu.edu/exhibits/abject-object-feminism-art-the-academy> curator Courtney Hunt.

2:30-3 p.m. In-person event starts with refreshments available in Thompson 150

3-4 p.m. Virtual conversation via Zoom with Lucy Lippard and Tomie Arai, moderated by Erina Duganne and Marissa Vigneault.

This event is co-sponsored by Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies, Department of Art and Department of History of Art.
