ArtCenter College of Design is searching for an experienced Research and Instruction Librarian (Specializing in Industrial Design Disciplines) to join our team.

The salary range for this position: $68,000.00 - 72,000.00

Final salary is based on education, experience, skills relevant to the role, and internal equity.

Reporting to the Director of Research and Instruction, the Research and Instruction Librarian will be specializing in Industrial Design disciplines (e.g., Product Design, Spatial Design and Transportation Design) and is responsible for providing specialized research assistance, instructional support, and collection management services to students, faculty, and staff in these disciplines. The incumbent plays a vital role in fostering information literacy, research skills development, and promoting the effective use of library resources specific to art and design fields, with a focus on business resources as they apply to industrial design disciplines.

This is a full-time, in-region position. Normal business hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The position is eligible for a hybrid schedule with at least two days in the office. The position may require flexibility to work a staggered, remote or alternate schedule to meet the demands of the work, which could include weekends or evenings.

Instructional Design and Information Literacy — 40%

  *   Develop and deliver user-centered instructional sessions, workshops, and tutorials on information literacy skills, research methodologies, citation practices, and effective use of library resources
  *   Collaborate with faculty to integrate information literacy concepts and skills into curriculum and assignments, fostering students' critical thinking, information evaluation, and ethical use of information
  *   Create and maintain online research guides, tutorials, and other instructional materials to support independent learning and research skill development

Research Support — 30%

  *   Provide personalized in-person and virtual research assistance to students, faculty, and staff, assisting them in locating and effectively utilizing relevant resources, including books, databases, and digital media
  *   Develop and deliver workshops, training sessions, and instructional materials to enhance research skills, information literacy, and critical thinking abilities
  *   Stay current with emerging research trends, technologies, and best practices in art and design disciplines to enhance research support services

Collection Development — 20%

  *   Participate in collection development activities, including selection, evaluation, and deselection of library materials, with a focus on diversifying and decolonizing collections and ensuring alignment with the needs of the ArtCenter community
  *   Stay informed about new publications, databases, and resources in art, design, and related fields
  *   Collaborate with faculty and staff to identify and acquire relevant resources in various formats, such as books, periodicals, multimedia, and digital content
  *   Monitor usage patterns, assess the effectiveness of collections, and make data-informed recommendations for enhancing the library's holdings and resource accessibility

Outreach and Engagement — 10%

  *   Actively engage with assigned academic departments to understand their research and instructional needs, and proactively promote library services, resources, and initiatives
  *   Collaborate with the campus departments, including the Library’s Access and Outreach department, and student organizations to plan and deliver outreach events, displays, and programs that highlight the library's collections and services
  *   Serve on library and campus committees, participating in collaborative decision-making and contributing to the continuous improvement of library services and operations
  *   Stay current and engaged with developments in library research and instruction services, art and design education, and emerging technologies through professional reading, attending conferences, workshops, and training opportunities
  *   Engage in professional organizations and networks, sharing knowledge and best practices with colleagues and contributing to the advancement of the library profession

Required Qualifications:

  *   MS/MLS/MLIS from an American Library Association accredited program
  *   A strong understanding of the fields of industrial design, product design, spatial experience/environmental design, and transportation design; familiarity with the industry trends, terminology, and research methodologies specific to these disciplines, including color, material and finish is highly desirable; knowledge of business resources as they apply to these fields, such as market reports, industry publications, as well business and trend forecasting databases, is crucial
  *   Experience working in an academic or research library with liaison responsibilities in a role involving research assistance, information literacy instruction, collection development and outreach
  *   Proficiency in utilizing library systems, databases, research tools, and emerging technologies relevant to library services and resource management is important; familiarity with digital resources, online research platforms, and academic databases specific to design, business, and engineering
  *   Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver effective information literacy instruction, workshops, and tutorials tailored to students
  *   Experience collaborating with faculty to integrate information literacy concepts and business research skills into the curriculum is valuable
  *   Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills are necessary for interacting with students, faculty, staff, and alumni; the ability to collaborate effectively with faculty and other college departments is essential
  *   Organizational and Analytical Abilities: Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities are important for collection development and deselection, research support, and instructional activities; the capacity to analyze information needs, identify resources, and evaluate the quality and relevance of resources is crucial
  *   Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic, and evolving environment
  *   A commitment to ongoing professional development, staying current with emerging trends in the library and information field, art and design education, and business research is essential; active engagement in professional organizations and networks relevant to academic libraries, industrial design, product design, spatial experience/environmental design, and transportation design is beneficial

Preferred Qualifications

  *   Experience with library assessment, including developing student-learning outcomes
  *   Familiarity with ACRL Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education
  *   Familiarity with instructional design (e.g., Camtasia) and learning management systems (e.g., Canvas)
  *   Knowledge of Dewey Decimal Classification, Library of Congress Classification, and Library of Congress Subject Headings
  *   Proficiency in a second language (other than English)
