ArtCenter College of Design is searching for an experienced Director, Research and Instruction to join our team.

The salary range for this position: $80,000.00 - 85,000.00

Final salary is based on education, experience, skills relevant to the role, and internal equity.

Reporting to the College Librarian and Managing Director, the Director, Research and Instruction will play a pivotal role in shaping and enhancing the library’s research and instruction services to support the educational and creative needs of the college community. The incumbent will be expected to identify campus constituents' needs, follow instruction/research trends in order to prioritize services and allocate resources, and champion information literacy. They will successfully manage programs and services, manage a team of research and instruction librarians, and effectively collaborate with faculty, staff, and students.

This is a full-time, in-region position. Normal business hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. This position is eligible for a hybrid schedule with at least 2 days in the office. The position may require flexibility to work a staggered, remote or alternate schedule to meet the demands of the work, which could include weekends or evenings.

Leadership and Strategic Planning — 20%

  *   Develop and implement a strategic vision for research and instruction services in alignment with the Library's overall goals and the College's mission
  *   Oversee recruitment, hiring, orientation, training and supervision of department staff and student workers; oversee performance evaluation process, ensuring consistent use of all applicable policies and procedures; apply performance management for improved performance, make recommendations in discipline and terminations, as required
  *   Provide leadership and guidance to a team of research and instruction librarians, with liaison responsibilities, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment
  *   Stay abreast of emerging trends, technologies, and best practices in research and instruction to ensure the library remains at the forefront of providing relevant and effective services

Research Support — 20%

  *   Collaborate with faculty and students to provide research consultations, assisting them in identifying and accessing appropriate resources for their projects
  *   Develop and deliver workshops, training sessions, and instructional materials to enhance research skills, information literacy, and critical thinking abilities
  *   Develop and maintain research guides, tutorials, and other resources to support self-directed learning and research

Instructional Design and Information Literacy — 35%

  *   Collaborate with faculty to integrate information literacy into the curriculum, ensuring that students develop the necessary competencies for success in their academic and professional endeavors
  *   Conduct curricular mapping to identify opportunities for embedding information literacy skills throughout the curriculum
  *   Design and deliver instructional sessions, including in-person and online workshops, to teach research strategies, effective use of library resources, and information evaluation
  *   Assess the effectiveness of instructional programs and services and make data-driven recommendations for continuous improvement

Collection Development — 20%

  *   Collaborate with Research and Instruction team to ensure the library's collection meets the evolving needs of the college community, including print and digital resources
  *   Stay informed about new publications, databases, and resources in art, design, and related fields
  *   Provide expertise and guidance in selecting and acquiring materials that support research and instruction

Outreach and Collaboration — 5%

  *   Foster strong partnerships and collaborations with faculty, staff, and students to promote the library's resources and services
  *   Participate in campus committees and initiatives, including those related to research, instruction, and information literacy
  *   Represent the library at professional conferences, meetings, and events

Required Qualifications:

  *   MS/MLS/MLIS from an American Library Association accredited program
  *   Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in an academic or research library, with a focus on research and instruction
  *   Experience integrating information literacy concepts into academic programs
  *   Teaching experience with a strong knowledge of teaching pedagogies and ACRL's Framework for Information Literacy
  *   Demonstrated experience in instructional design and delivery, including the use of technology and online learning platforms
  *   Experience with library assessment, including developing student-learning outcomes
  *   Reference experience and a strong knowledge of trends related to research services in academic libraries
  *   Strong knowledge of art and design resources, scholarly communication, and information literacy principles
  *   Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders
  *   Proven leadership and managerial abilities, including the ability to lead and motivate a team
  *   Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make data-driven decisions
  *   Ability to thrive in a dynamic and evolving environment
  *   Strong commitment to service and willingness to develop new competencies through professional development
  *   A commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity through collections, instruction, and outreach

Preferred Qualifications

  *   Familiarity with instructional design software (e.g., Camtasia) and learning management systems (e.g., Canvas)
  *   Knowledge of Dewey Decimal Classification and LC subject headings
  *   Ability to work in a fast-paced library environment
  *   Proficiency in a second language (other than English)
