Director of the Center for Teaching & Learning and Learning Commons Manager The Pennsylvania College of Art & Design (PCA&D) seeks an innovative, creative, and dynamic non-traditional fine arts librarian and/or teaching specialist to serve as the Director of the Center for Teaching & Learning, housed in the College’s Learning Commons. The next Director will have the vision and experience to create resources and experiences that emphasize content over form, reflecting the changing role of the stewardship of objects in the digital age (See College Art Association Standards and Guidelines for Visual Resources Professionals). He/she/they will lead the Center so that information literacy, intellectual access to information, critical thinking, and the creation and management of access to information are central to the Center’s mission. The Director will also foster an inclusive learning environment and curate resources and access to information that support learning within a diverse, global community. The new Director will assist the College in continuing the effort to reposition the Learning Commons as the hub of creative and critical thinking for the campus. The Learning Commons includes The Stacks book collection, audio-visual resources, the Writing Center and Career Services, and an activated learning environment that allows for lectures, guest speakers, studio and academic tutoring, study space, and walls for exhibiting curated works of art.

In 2020, PCA&D re-launched the academic library as a library of the future through a new collaborative model: the Learning Commons. The 2019-2024 Strategic Plan identified the development of a series of new centers of learning, making, and collaboration for the PCA&D community and its partners: the Center for Creative Exploration; the Institute for Leadership, Creative Entrepreneurship, and Innovation; the repositioning of the campus within the greater Lancaster area as a Creative Hub; and the Center for Teaching & Learning. The new Learning Commons became the site of the Center for Teaching & Learning in the summer of 2020 and has since been the structure through which resources are accessed, information and visual literacy training occurs, and faculty and student scholarly and creative activity are supported.

The next Director of the Center for Teaching & Learning and Learning Commons Manager will continue this enterprise by providing leadership in professional development, supporting student learning and development, and collecting, managing, and facilitating use of research and learning resources from the Learning Commons collection.

The Director will continue the Center and Common’s support for the College’s current strategic plan, which focuses on the interconnectedness of these ideas: Creativity, Partnerships, and Lancaster. The Director will also draft a new strategic plan for the Center and Commons, drawing on the College’s new Strategic Plan to be launched AY 2023-2024 as well as the Center’s current mission, vision, and goals.
