Job Overview

The Humanities Librarian (Visual and Performing Arts) is responsible for leading and implementing programs and services that support the full lifecycle of research, creative expression, and learning for faculty and students in Art & Art History, Music, Dance & Movement, Film & Media Studies, Theater, and the Visual & Cultural Studies Graduate Program.

Responsibilities will include but are not exclusive to: understanding, anticipating, and fulfilling the research and learning needs of assigned departments and communities; communicating key information about the library and its services; planning and delivery of (typically) one-shot instructional sessions; holding individual and group research consultations; monitoring chat and e-mail reference questions; supporting the Humanities Librarians Team in collection development efforts; and collaborating toward academic engagement events and activities like workshops, pop up presentations/performances, and collection highlights or student art exhibits. As a contributing member of the liaison librarian group, the incumbent will attend meetings and contribute to projects that advance the River Campus Libraries’ (RCL) teaching, learning, and research strategies. This librarian will also work closely with the Patron Services Staff who manage services within the physical space of the Art & Music Library.

Required Qualifications

  *   Post-graduate degree in library and information science from an A.L.A.-accredited institution
  *   Experience or familiarity with research and instruction in an academic library setting
  *   Experience developing and cultivating relationships and partnerships
  *   Cultural competency, recognizing users as unique individuals with personalized experiences
  *   Ability to remain current in best practices related to student success in higher education
  *   Communication and relationship-building skills, including the ability to negotiate and speak thoughtfully to specific needs/concerns
  *   Demonstrated commitment to teamwork/collaboration and ability to work effectively with a diverse campus community
  *   Outstanding customer service
  *   Emotional intelligence
  *   Competencies in information, digital, and data literacies, to support their capabilities (and those of their users) in assigned projects that support library and academic departmental needs
