Hello all,

I’ve been privately encouraged to share the method to repeat call with an iPhone, so here it is.

Usual disclaimer: please use at your own risk (I don’t think there are risks associated with this, but who knows); no phones or call-centers were harmed while testing this script; do NOT use to harass or stalk someone; will drain your battery if used repeatedly. Here we go!

A short guide to auto-call a busy number and have a chance to get on the line (without losing your mind)

This guide is intended for iPhone. It works from iOS version 13 and on: you need the app “Shortcuts", which is part of the system (but you may still need to download it if you don’t have it on your device).

I have used this script in Europe, and it works well. I assume it works worldwide, but I may be wrong!

STEPS

0) Create a new contact with the number you want to call in your iPhone contact list
1) Open the Shortcuts application
2) Tap on “Shortcuts” icon on the lower left of the screen
3) Tap on “All shortcuts” at the top of this view
4) You should now be in a view with a large title “All Shortcuts” and a + on the top right end of the screen
5) Tap on the + to create new shortcut
6) Once you’re in, click on Add Action, search for “Repeat” and tap “Repeat”. This will add a loop in your script
7) The loop repeats itself 1 time by default. Tap on “1 time” and increase the number of repetitions (it’s tedious as you have to tap + to increase, but it’s fast). I usually take it to 100, which means that the script runs about 16 minutes before stopping
8) Tap on the search bar at the bottom of the screen and input “wait”; tap on “Wait”. This adds a command “Wait” at the bottom of your script.
9) Tap and hold the new Wait command, and move it between “Repeat” and “End Repeat”
10) Change the wait time to “10 seconds” by tapping “1 second” and increasing the time with +
11) Tap on the search bar at the bottom of the screen and input “call”; tap on “Call” (under Contacts) This adds a command “Call” at the bottom of your script.
12) Tap and hold the new Call command, and move it between “Repeat” and “End Repeat”, below “Wait"
13) Tap “Contact” in your new “Call” command, and choose the contact you created in step 0
14) Tap at the very top of the screen and rename your script as you like
15) Click “Done” (top right) and you are taken to the main “All Shortcuts” screen where we started

HOW TO USE THE SCRIPT

The script is very simple but also very dumb. It repeats for 100 times the action to wait 10 seconds and then call the number you chose. The script doesn’t understand if the line is busy or free. When you use it, you still need to be vigilant and act (relatively) fast when the line is free.

When I say “act” I mean “stop the script”. This is because the script will try to keep calling and will break your conversation for a couple of seconds every ten seconds.

I recommend using this script with earphones so that you can easily listen to the line signal and act then it becomes free. When the line sounds free, you stop the script and take the call.

To use it, enter the script again by tapping the “three dots in a circle” symbol on the top-right of the script in the “All Shortcuts” screen.

To start the script, tap the “Play” symbol (>) in the bottom right of the script window; the script will start by waiting 10 seconds and then trying to call; if the line is busy, you’ll see it from the phone screen; after a while (10 seconds) a new “calling” screen will appear… and so on for 100 times that we have programmed.

If the line is free, you’ll hear it from the signal, and the iPhone will stay on the “calling” screen. This is when you have to act fast (don’t panic, it’s easy to do and if it takes you some time nothing bad happens). Switch back to the Shortcuts application and stop the script (Stop icon at the bottom right of your screen). Enjoy the call with the call-center employee (!!! good luck!)

Done!

Giovanni

Hi Anna and all,

In case you need a trick to repeatedly call a number that’s always busy so to have a chance to get the line when it’s available, I wrote a script for iPhone that does just that. It’s a workaround as it’s technically not possible to auto-call on iPhone, but it works well for the purpose. I’m sure there’s something similar if you have an android phone.

If you need it I can send it privately or post it here.

Best
Giovanni

Sorry you are experiencing this, Anna!

I looked into this (although I did finally get mine).

If you've already applied, you can make an appointment within 5 days of your international travel for an IN-PERSON visit to one of the passport centers.

Sadly, the passport centers are in limited places for most of the United States. For you, Anna, the closest ones are in Chicago and Minneapolis.

However, your number is correct, and people call it multiple times to get through the busy signal to the actual system.

Good luck!!!!

Hi ARLIS,

I renewed my passport online in January and got a message on 1/31 that it was in-process and would take 6-9 weeks (although I see now that www.travel.state.gov lists processing times as 10-13 weeks). I’m getting nervous as there’s been no status update; I called to expedite but the “urgent travel service” 877-487-2778 number is out of service.

Does anyone have any insights? Am I totally in a pickle? Is anyone else in a similar situation?

All best,

Anna
