Hello Kai,
For many years, our library exhibition programming made use of four, free-standing wooden display cases with glass lids that could be moved around in different locations (and locked) to present 2D and some 3D work. The cases were made in the 1970s, they still work well, and have a certain retro-chic quality to them.
Since our library was renovated a few years ago, we also have access to a large, display wall (partial view: here) that has moveable shelves – all behind locked glass doors. This also works well.
I hope this helps.
Thanks and good luck with your research.
Best,
John

Hello Kai,
I think what Frey says is a good solution. We currently have a faculty/staff art exhibition in our library lobby in honor of National Library Week. Many objects are displayed in locked cases. The pictures that are hanging have temporary magnetic strips on the back so that the alarm will sound if they are taken out.
I hope that this helps.
Thank you and best wishes,
Sandra

I've shown work in a space like that, haven't run into any issues. I think the impetus was placed on me as the artist to provide insurance (which means it wasn't insured 😅)
If you can provide something sturdy to lock up the art and make it a nuisance to take, that would be helpful! I've seen art locked in cases, or frames locked onto hanging chain.
Hope that helps!

Hey now collective,
I've recently learned the Gallery space I manage in my library is a part of a space they are turning into a 24 hour 7 access space. I need to reimagine how installation from Students, faculty and staff are secured. I checked the Best Practices for Library exhibits and don't see any reference to exhibits with this predicament.
Have any of you worked with an exhibit space like this and might be able to reference or suggest best practices. We are still in the early stages of converting the library space, so I might still be able to suggest things for the Gallery and can edit the Guidelines for exhibitors.
Patiently awaiting your suggestions.
With gratitude,
