Relatedly, and in terms of thesaurus terms, one might want to be able to consistently use some term, ala "marginalized art" or "marginalization" as a descriptor for the process of art being marginalized. Such a term would be similar to, yet with a slightly different spin, than something like "primitivism in art" which encompasses, to some degree, the intellectual act of marginalization wrapped up in some sort of colonial-based thought honoring/objectifying the "primitive."

I agree wholeheartedly with Janine. We need to think about what we would use as search terms to find "art by women artists", "folk art traditions", etc. Marginalized is a problem, not the solution, to be blunt.

Oh dear, please don’t use “marginalized” to describe these topics! Why would one consider non-Western art as marginalized? Or folk art traditions? Or Art by women artists, etc? And why group them together into a category? Why can’t each of these subjects stand on their on? If they all need to be on the same guide couldn’t the guide just be for “Special Topics” or “Selected Topics?”

I didn't see marginalized in the AAT, but may not have searched it correctly. 

The instructor has identified the following groups to include in the guide as a starting point:
  • Folk art
  • Children's art
  • Women
  • Persons with disabilities
  • LGBTQ+ 
  • (Non-western)
