I'd like to invite you to an event taking place in-person at Center for Book Arts in New York City on February 15th. It's of interest especially if you are interested in papermaking, paper history, language in book arts, and metadata practices!
Join 2022 Book Arts Research Fellow Alta L. Price for a brief talk and open discussion of how the widespread misnomer “rice paper” appears in the archives, and what implications it has for both the works it is attached to as well as for the Center’s broader community. Price began with a set of six objects, but the Center’s collections soon revealed many more connections. As our society continues reconsidering its core values and how they are expressed, this evening will explore the ways both art and language—and, of course, books—can bring people together.
This event takes place in-person at Center for Book Arts (28 W 27th St, 3rd Fl) on Wednesday, February 15, 2023 from 6:00–7:30 pm.
Participants are required to follow CBA’s Covid-19 health and safety measures; masks are required at this in-person event.
Looking forward to it,
Gillian
