Job Summary

The Collection & Content Management Systems (CCMS) team within Getty Digital assists Getty Programs and departments through the administration of a suite of data management systems, technical project management, and digital preservation activities. We are looking for an energetic, experienced, and user-centered professional to join the CCMS team as an IT Project Manager. Reporting to the Assistant Director of CCMS, the position will manage data migrations from legacy platforms into new or existing systems of record, manage our digital asset metadata governance initiative for our DAM system (OpenText Media Management - OTMM), and serve as a backup application manager for TMS.


The incumbent will join the CCMS team, which includes ten staff members: seven project/application managers, two software engineers, and one administrative assistant. This position works closely with CCMS team members–particularly the OTMM and TMS application manager–Getty Digital colleagues, and content-focused teams from across the organization.


This is an opportunity for an information professional and project manager with a deep interest in cultural heritage, digital asset management, metadata, data management processes, systems, and documentation. Desired candidates will be able to manage a diverse portfolio of projects and enjoy technical work and interacting directly with stakeholders. Excellent communication and people skills, attention to detail, the ability to work with little oversight, and a desire to continuously learn and expand their skill set is a must.

This position is a hybrid work environment opportunity; this is not a permanent remote assignment. The successful candidate must be a California resident when employment begins and will be required to work one day per week on campus with the CCMS team. 

Major Job Responsibilities

  • Direct system-related projects using project management best practices 
  • Manage data migration and metadata remediation projects
  • Manage the OTMM digital asset metadata governance initiative, which includes building consensus around policies, standards, and workflows
  • Work in partnership with program staff to assess metadata requirements; evaluates structure and flow of work; evaluates possible solutions; and implements and or recommends solutions that achieve goals 
  • Work with users to bring assets into OTMM
  • Provide back-up TMS application management
  • Serve as an technical ambassador and a resource to the Getty community
  • Manage relationships with consultants and vendors in associated projects
  • Produce and maintain current documentation for projects and initiatives
  • Monitor and track technical advancements in the cultural heritage field 
  • Participate in user communities to learn about new approaches and communicate Getty experiences 
  • May supervise junior colleagues and or interns

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or a combination of education and relevant experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive software analysis development and implementation experience
  • 0-2 years IT project management experience

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Information Science background preferred
  • Strong technical project management skills, especially the ability to scope projects; define user requirements; to multitask and prioritize; to document and communicate effectively; and to identify, evaluate, and solve problems 
  • Experience migrating data and user workflows to new platforms
  • Experience working with digital asset management and cultural heritage data management platforms. TMS and OTMM experience strongly preferred.
  • Proven ability to build strong relationships with stakeholders and convince others of the value, impact, and importance of data governance work
  • Thorough knowledge of current and emerging data management technologies, standards, workflows, and best practices 
  • Experience working with a variety of metadata formats and standards. Knowledge of CIDOC-CRM or Linked.Art is a plus 
  • Experience working with controlled vocabularies and developing taxonomies
  • Demonstrated ability to oversee and build consensus within diverse teams 
  • Expert skills to evaluate, comprehend, and interpret business needs and data 
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain complex technical issues and processes to non-technical audiences 
  • Service-oriented attitude and curiosity a must
