Dear Alexandra,
Thank you for posting this challenging example! Not having the resource, I’ll go by OCLC #1300421766.
Description
It has texts (in two languages), interviews, and illustrations. In that case, I would follow RDA 6.27.1.4 and treat it as a compilation: creative visual
works by the artist, plus scholarly art essays by the writers. If it were chiefly art reproductions, then for sure I would treat Rüdiger as the creator. (My dog-eared copy of Kate James’ Art Catalogs still helps me in this situation:
https://www.loc.gov/aba/rda/Refresher_training_dec_2011.html)
The interim policy update to LC-PCC PS 6.2.2.10.3
https://www.loc.gov/aba/rda/pdf/interim-policy-update-2-2021.pdf says no more conventional collective titles for post-1500 works, but I am always tempted to add a ‘plain’ 700 access
point for the artist, to compilations.
Subject
Definitely the 600 with --Exhibitions as a topical subdivision, as the resource is about the past exhibitions, and maybe reproduces the catalog entries.
I would not use --Catalogs as a form subdivision under the artist subject heading, though, because of the restriction under
https://id.loc.gov/authorities/subjects/sh99001246.html to “works listing their art works or crafts which are
available or located in particular institutions or places.”
I would not assign the 650s as they are so broad (save them for works about Italian sculpture of those centuries, my former supervisor would advise), and
the class and Cutter number would indicate a contemporary Italian sculptor.
As you can see, I follow LC practice, which includes original RDA, but this message is personal--not an official communication from my employer.
Thanks again, and in hopes you find this helpful,
--Julia
