It includes large numbers of rare, antiquarian, modern, and contemporary books, serials, auction sales catalogs, ephemera, artists’ books, and electronic resources in a wide variety of languages. The Published Materials Cataloging & Metadata unit provides metadata/cataloging for these materials and oversees the subsequent metadata transformation for various digital projects involving them. The manager works closely with other managers in Library Collection Development & Acquisitions, Special Collections Cataloging & Processing, Reference, and Information Systems, as well as with bibliographers, curators, registrars, circulation, and interlibrary loan, to coordinate the provision and further development of access and discovery of the Library’s published collections in various formats, in person and remotely, to users around the world.

The ideal candidate will have experience or knowledge relating to most aspects of published materials cataloging and metadata, including rare book cataloging, original and copy cataloging, e-resource management, emerging metadata standards, and outsourcing. They will be dedicated to upholding the unit’s current high standards and contributions to national cooperative projects while considering improvements to current workflows for added effectiveness. They will demonstrate an appreciation of the uniquely complex aspects of cataloging art-related published materials.

The Getty Research Institute is dedicated to furthering knowledge and advancing awareness of the visual arts and their various histories through its expertise, ongoing collecting program, public programs, institutional partnerships, exhibitions, publications, digital services, and residential scholars’ programs. Among the world’s premier art libraries, the Getty Library and its Special Collections include over 1.5 million volumes, rare materials, and digital resources, which serve a vast international community of scholars and the interested public.
