Position Summary
Responsible for the organization and supervision of Collections Management operations including cataloging, authority control, digital collections, preservation and conservation, web archives, and ensuring a state -of-the-art technological environment. Set policy and procedures in conjunction with Director of Library for management of all library materials in a variety of formats.

Major Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions)

  *   Perform original, complex, and copy cataloging as necessary.  Revise cataloging of staff including making corrections to description, subject analysis, classification, and authority information ensuring that cataloging complies with required local and national standards including RDA, DACS, and Dublin Core in the appropriate encoding standards.  Maintain cataloging statistics.
  *   Maintain a proficiency in various technologies for use in cataloging, authority control, digitization, web archiving, and archives. Responsible for multiple library systems including Sierra, CONTENTdm, Connexion, ArchivesSpace, Archive-IT, and Bibliotheca inventory software. Facilitates and coordinates updates and manages staff access as needed.
  *   Maintain and resolve problems related to the ILS and public online catalog as necessary.  Provide for the accommodation of software upgrades to the Library’s Innovative Interfaces ILS.  Serve as liaison with Innovative Interfaces.
  *   Supervise all Collections Management staff.  Develop competent, well-trained, properly structured, and highly motivated staff.  Provide coaching and technical information.
  *   Supervise and train graduate and undergraduate interns and volunteers including library school graduate interns, Rodger’s summer interns, and Winter Study students.
  *   Manage digitization of library and archives material and harvest of born digital resources ensuring compliance with copyright and permissions when required. Work with partner institutions including Boston Public Library in conjunction with Digital Commonwealth, the Digital Public Library of America, Getty Portal, Hathi Trust and Internet Archive to share collections and metadata to facilitate widespread access.
  *   Oversee long term preservation program and in-house conservation of library materials. Determine best practices and recommend materials and treatments.
  *   Develop, recommend, and monitor operating budget.  Manage and coordinate all department activities to ensure goals are achieved.  Advise management on performance and budget variances and significant changes in conditions and issues.
  *   Attend and participate in relevant regional and national professional and scholarly conferences and meetings.
  *   Plan and manage special projects.  Conduct research and investigate project requirements with internal personnel as needed.  Present results and make recommendations as appropriate.  Implement approved recommendations.
  *   Assist Director of Library in overall management of the library, including planning and implementing special projects, staffing, scheduling, etc.
  *   Other duties as assigned.
