Call for Proposals: We invite proposals for the ARLIS 2023 panel, “Imagining Mexican Art & Architecture / Imaginando
Arte y Arquitectura Mexicana.” This in-person session will occur in Mexico City from 18-21 April 2023. Proposals in Spanish or English can be sent to Elisabeth Narkin ([log in to unmask]) by July 31st and should include:

ABSTRACT
Imagining Mexican Art & Architecture
The mention of Mexico City conjures certain iconic images to mind: an aerial view of the Palacio de Bellas Artes at dusk or sunlight striking a corner Luis Barragán’s house near the Bosque Chapultepec, the carefully-arranged interiors
of Frida Kahlo’s Casa Azul or the pre-hispanic sculptural fragments of the Templo Mayor. In addition to photographing these well-known sites in the capital, nineteenth and twentieth-century photographers like Manuel Álvarez Bravo, Judith Sandoval, and Enrique
Cervantes documented the art and architecture of Mexico. Works of art in their own right, these photographs also serve as important resources for art historical studies.
This session invites participants to explore photographic collections in North America that document Mexican art and architecture, with particular emphasis on Mexico City. Papers may explore the acquisition, processing, or presentation
(either digital or physical) of images as well as documentation related to photographers, architects, artists, and scholars. The session will be bi-lingual, and proposals in both English and Spanish are welcome.

Trans Asia Photography invites submissions for a general issue, Volume 13, no. 2 (Fall 2023). The journal examines all aspects of photographic history, theory, and practice by centering images in or of Asia, conceived as a territory, network, and cultural imaginary.
It welcomes:
