The Getty Research Institute seeks a creative, thoughtful, and energetic Digital Collection Development Librarian to oversee and develop the content and programs associated
with the Getty Research Portal as well as the GRI’s own digitization program for published materials. Reporting to the Chief Librarian, this position takes a principal
role in defining, developing, managing, and marketing the Portal’s collections and future roadmap, working closely with a wide variety of colleagues in various roles at the Getty, overseeing a functional team, and in managing an international advisory group
and working oneA-on-one with potential and current contributors. Launched in 2012 with 20,000 volumes, 8 contributors, and the goal of providing unified and free access to the digitized literature of art history, today the Portal hosts metadata bringing together
over 170,000 digitized volumes from over 40 institutions, and offers Virtual Collections to support pedagogy and public programs. In addition to working with colleagues at the Getty Research Institute and Getty Digital to maintain and develop the Portal, this
position may also assist with some of the external digital library partnerships in which the Getty Library participates, including but not limited to Hathi Trust, DPLA, and web archiving projects.
The ideal candidate will be experienced and knowledgeable in digital librarianship, project management, external partnerships, book digitization, the coordination of the
work of others, and art historical research, gained through a combination of education and experience.
The Getty Research Institute is dedicated to furthering knowledge and advancing awareness of the visual arts and their various histories through its expertise, ongoing
collecting program, public programs, institutional partnerships, exhibitions, publications, digital services, and residential scholars’ programs. Among the world’s premier art libraries, the Getty Library and its Special Collections include over 1.5 million
volumes, rare materials, and digital resources, which serve a vast international community of scholars and the interested public. The Institute's activities and scholarly resources guide and sustain each other and collectively provide a unique environment
for research, critical inquiry, and scholarly exchange.
