Dear colleagues,
I am pleased to announce that Amanda Hannoosh Steinberg will take on the role of Librarian for Islamic Art and Architecture at the Fine Arts Library on May 16, 2022.
Since January 2021, Amanda has served in the interim role of Aga Khan Bibliographer in Islamic Art and Architecture. In her new role as Librarian for Islamic Art and Architecture, she will continue to build and manage bibliographic collections related to the art, architecture and visual culture of the Islamic world in all formats. She will also develop services and programs to support the research, teaching, and learning needs of faculty, students, and fellows affiliated with the Aga Khan Program for Islamic Architecture at Harvard University, as well as the broader community across campus.
Amanda has held her current position as Visual Resources Librarian for Islamic Art & Architecture since 2018. In this role, she has built digital collections to support research and teaching in the visual arts of the Islamic world, including overseeing the digitization and cataloging of the Stuart Cary Welch Islamic and South Asian Photograph Collection. She will continue to serve in this capacity until a replacement is hired. Prior to joining Harvard, Amanda was the Librarian for the Middle East & North Africa at George Washington University, a position that also combined collection development and research and instruction support. Amanda holds a PhD in Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations from the University of Pennsylvania, an MA in Arabic & Islamic Studies also from the University of Pennsylvania, and a BA from Hamilton College.
