*Timothy Clark FBA*
Honorary Research Fellow, Department of Asia, British Museum


Timothy Clark FBA is an Honorary Research Fellow in the Department of Asia
at the British Museum. Until 2019, he was Head of the Japanese Section at
the Museum, where he led a major reinstallation of the museum’s permanent
collections in the Mitsubishi Corporation Japanese Galleries (2018). During
his tenure at the British Museum, Mr. Clark curated and co-curated a
succession of special exhibitions, including *Shunga* (2013), *Hokusai*
 (2017), *Manga* (2018) and *Nara* (2019). Between 2016 and 2019, he was
the Principal Investigator in the UK for the AHRC-funded international
research project, *Late Hokusai: Thought, Technique, Society*.

In his lecture, Mr. Clark will talk about *The Great Picture Book of
Everything* and late Hokusai print culture.



Katsushika Hokusai, *'Virudhaka (Ruriō) killed by lightning' *(illustration
for *The Great Picture Book of Everything*). Block-ready drawing, ink on
paper, 1820s–40s. British Museum, purchase funded by the Theresia Gerda
Buch Bequest, in memory of her parents Rudolph and Julie Buch, with support
from Art Fund (with a contribution from the Wolfson Foundation).
