Systems Librarian - NSCAD University, Halifax, NS, Canada

NSCAD University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-stream appointment, beginning July 1, 2022, at the rank of Librarian 1.


NSCAD University is in Mi’kma’ki, on the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq Nation. NSCAD University has committed to reconciliation and to establishing respectful ongoing relationships with Indigenous peoples.


The successful candidate will be responsible for operation and support for the technology and systems that connect NSCAD’s community to the Library’s print, digital, archival and special collections. The NSCAD Library is a member of Novanet, the consortium of postsecondary libraries in Nova Scotia. The candidate will work with the Director of the Library and library staff and lead local production of metadata for bibliographic, archival and media formats to ensure access to the library’s range of print and digital collections. The incumbent will develop instruction for local and remote library users in the use of the existing library system and institutional repository. In addition, the incumbent will facilitate the integration of library resources and services in NSCAD’s learning management system.

Requirements:
  • Demonstrated knowledge of library discovery and access platforms and learning management systems.
  • Experience with the Ex Libris Alma/Primo platform. Experience as an Alma/Primo Administrator is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of metadata standards used for bibliographic, archival and media collections
  • Current knowledge of copyright legislation and issues in higher education.
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion.
  • An enthusiasm for adopting new technologies to facilitate access to collections.
Qualifications:
  • Candidates should have an ALA-accredited Masters of Library or Information Studies/Science degree or equivalent and at least 2 years of relevant work experience.
  • An undergraduate degree in Art History, Fine Art or equivalent is preferred, though not required.
  • Salary will be dependent upon qualifications and in accordance with the Faculty Salary Grid.
