Librarian - Kimbell Art Museum, Fort Worth, TX

Description

The Kimbell Art Museum (KAM) seeks a knowledgeable, dynamic, and self-motivated individual for the position of the Librarian. The Librarian will oversee the operations of the KAM library containing more than 70,000 volumes of books, periodicals, auction catalogs, and databases and will be responsible for all aspects of the library's management.


As Librarian, the successful candidate’s responsibilities include providing leadership and coordination for collections and services in support of the Museum. The functions will include, but are not limited to, administration of the library, collection development, and collaboration with all Museum departments and the CDLC libraries.


KAM’s private research library is located in the Piano Pavilion of the Kimbell campus, a renowned museum in Fort Worth, Texas. The library's collections are non-circulating, and they primarily serve the Museum's staff and docents. They are also available to art historians, faculty, and graduate students from surrounding universities by appointment. The library is a member of The Cultural District Library Consortium (CDLC). The CDLC, formed in 1996, has a collection of approximately 120,000 records contributed by the participating museum libraries in Fort Worth, Texas.

Responsibilities:
  • Oversees all library functions, activities, and programs
  • Creates and maintains MARC cataloging records following RDA standards
  • Collaborates with the CDLC administrators in developing and maintaining CDLC standards
  • Manages the OCLC service and the ILS, which is ExLibris Aleph
  • Manages the library budget, including acquisition budget and fund assignments
  • Performs library acquisitions, serial subscriptions check-in, and general administration
  • Prepares binding materials for books and periodicals
  • Provides circulation service, interlibrary loan service, and patron service
  • Provides research assistance to curators, staff, docents, interns, and patrons
  • Other duties as needed
Qualifications:
  • Experience with library acquisitions and collection development
  • Experience with ExLibris Aleph, OCLC Connexion, and other related systems and applications
  • Ability to deliver materials between buildings and on campus
  • Ability to shelve, lift, carry, and/or move up to 15 pounds material on book carts
  • Ability to work effectively with patrons, colleagues, and KAM managers
  • Knowledge of cataloging standards and practices including RDA, AACR2, MARC21, LCSH, and LC classification
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and project management skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment criminal background and drug screening

Knowledge and Education:
  • MLS or MLIS from an ALA-accredited program
  • BA or MA in Art History preferred
  • Familiarity with new technologies, applications, and metadata management
  • Five years of museum or academic library supervisory experience preferred
  • Knowledge of PCs, Microsoft Office 365, and database management
  • Knowledge of current cataloging practices and technology trends
