Are you looking for a way to expand your professional network within the ARLIS/NA community? Apply to be the inaugural ARLIS/NA Library Exhibition Review Co-Editors!


Volunteer Job Description:


The Library Exhibition Review is the newest initiative by the ARLIS/NA Exhibitions SIG. As exhibitions and displays become more integral to library services, following the publication of the ARLIS/NA Best Practices of Library Exhibitions released in November 2021, we intend to expand the effort in enhancing the visibility of library exhibitions, promoting best practices, as well as provide professional development opportunities for art information professionals through critical reflections of each other’s work. The new ARLIS/NA Library Exhibitions Review will provide an open and accessible platform dedicated to preserving and archiving exhibitions in both physical and digital formats. The Co-Editors will play a critical role to achieve this goal. This position is volunteer based. Co-editors are appointed by the SIG co-coordinators; the term of service is one year starting Spring 2022, renewable.


Duties include:

  • Develop exhibition review guidelines (style, format, criteria etc.) in collaboration with the Exhibitions SIG co-coordinators and in consultation with editors of ARLIS/NA Reviews. 

  • Develop publication calendar and cycle of solicitation, submission, editing, and publication for 2022

  • Select/recommend exhibitions for review (suggest the exhibitions and then solicit reviewers, or will the reviewers themselves suggest an exhibition for which they could provide a review)

  • Review and edit texts

  • Post review on Exhibitions SIG WordPress site

  • Promote the reviews on ARLIS/NA and the SIG listservs

  • Post call for reviewers for next issue on ARLIS/NA and SIG listservs

  • Attend Zoom planning meetings as needed


Qualifications:

  • Exemplary editing, writing, and project management skills

  • Have a strong interest in exhibitions

  • Highly collaborative and communicative

  • Have positive attitude and good time management

  • Current MLIS students, recent graduates, and those who are seeking employment are welcome. Institutional affiliations are not required.

Time commitment: To be determined based on individual interest and members involved
