Dear colleagues,

Please join us on Thursday, February 24 from 11AM-12PM EST/ 8AM-9AM PST for a virtual town hall on the subject of land acknowledgements. Zoom links and details are below.

In September 2020, the ARLIS/NA Executive Board adopted a policy to support the performance of land acknowledgements at the annual conference and encouraged the same for chapters and other groups in the society. What comes after this step, and how can we work together to ensure that the preparation and performance of land acknowledgements remains an active practice that goes beyond perfunctory readings?

To open this session, we will hear from volunteers from various ARLIS/NA constituent groups, including the Diversity & Inclusion Committee and the Canada Chapter, about their practices and activities. We invite members, particularly those who self-identify as Indigenous, to contribute their perspectives. Please reach out to Stephanie Grimm (ARLIS/NA Chapters Liaison) or Mark Pompelia (ARLIS/NA President) if you would like to speak briefly or share written comments.

This session provides space for chapter leaders and other members to ask questions, share resources, and discuss their experiences. After hearing from individual speakers, attendees will have time for small-group discussions. By offering this town hall in advance of the annual conference, we hope that attendees will leave with ideas or actions for their chapters and groups.

While only the formal presentations may be recorded, we will share collected resources and notes following the discussion.

This event is organized in collaboration with the Diversity & Inclusion Committee, with special thanks to Chloe Bragg, Amy Furness, Jane Devine Mejia, and Heather Slania.

We hope to see you there!
