Dear Collective Mind, We have a PhD student working on a project which focuses on self-portrait photographs taken by everyday people (that is, not artists or professional photographers) in the United States in the 20th century, specifically from 1930-1992. These could include self-portraits taken with mirrors or timed-release shutters or other methods, if the subject and the creator of the photograph are the same person; they may only be identifiable as such by captions written on the photos themselves. However, with all that said, the student would be happy with a lead on any vernacular photography collections with an American, 20th century focus. The final caveat the student is currently only able to access virtual collections.
