Call for Panel Participants at ARLIS/NA 2022: Panel on Inclusive Assessment
Dear Colleagues,
We are excited to be accepting 2-3 additional panelists for the 60-90 minute panel presentation “Inclusive Assessment” that will be held
in-person at the ARLIS/NA 2022 annual conference in Chicago. By “inclusive assessment,” we are thinking of alternative ways to account for learning or programming that aim to bring in concerns and feelings that
may not be accounted for using mainstream assessment. We invite you to join our panel if you have experience implementing assessment formats that are inclusive to diverse populations. Students
and early career professionals are encouraged to participate!
Please read the full panel description below.
Academic assessment often aggregates student learning into quantitative molds that do not fit populations with a history of exclusion and discrimination. This panel will bring together leaders from the field to discuss
minority inclusion in assessment. From using quick informal interactive assessment techniques in the classroom, to formal campus-wide measuring of general education outcomes, attendees will learn about how assessment can be tailored to diverse populations
and be applied as a tool to raise the voices of many minority people that often are left out of the conversation.
While many in administration talk about general directives to become inclusive at a basic operational level, what does that mean? How is it happening? By providing examples of specific assessment initiatives or techniques
that are meant to raise voices of exclusion to where decision-making is happening, ideas that are not from mainstream voices can become a part of the conversation instead of remaining on the sidelines The presentations in this panel will highlight the presenters’
experiences implementing different types of inclusive assessment formats at their institutions. Presenters will discuss the selection, designing and planning, implementation, and reflection of the assessment methods they used. For example, one presenter will
discuss an inclusive assessment method of specific information literacy learning outcomes that were taught across curriculum. The strategies discussed for assessment practices that are inclusive of diverse populations will be valuable to both early and advanced-career
professionals and will provide useful suggestions for those looking to incorporate inclusive assessment into their own pedagogical practice or institutional environment.
If you are interested in participating, please send the following information to Sara Quimby ([log in to unmask]) and
