Hi ARLIS-L, I'm writing on behalf of a faculty member I work with who is pulling together image permissions for a book. Would appreciate any wisdom the collective can provide! She is having trouble contacting people for copyright permissions at big for-profit publishers, like Life, Conde Nast (Vogue, GQ) and Hearst (Harper's Bazaar). "It looks like some books use the original fashion photography, and don't include the editorial layout/ text from a magazine, for example. But for all the recent work, ProQuest is not always identifying the photographer... (If I had the photographer, I could try something like Art Resources / Artist Rights Society)." Does anyone have ideas about how to approach getting permissions from these publishers, either for archival or more contemporary photography? Thanks a million!
