Good morning, colleagues!

I am working with our university’s curator to support an upcoming exhibition, and the artist has just asked me to curate a small selection of books from the library to include in the exhibit. The gallery is on campus, but in located in another building.

In addition to preservation and security concerns (already in discussion), I’d like to try and establish some precedent for this type of activity at other academic institutions, especially those without branch libraries who may not have mechanisms in place for material transfer or management outside of the central collection. Our collections manager is in support of this, but we’ll need to get library admin buy-in above that.

Have any of you been asked to do something similar, whether for an exhibition or other outreach purposes? I can make connections to my outreach work and exhibitions work in general (we do this exact thing in our library gallery already) but am curious how others might have strategized something similar.

Happy to hear any suggestions, ideas, warnings, etc. Feel free to email me directly off-list too, [log in to unmask].

Thank you!

Best,

Stephanie
