You are cordially invited to a free virtual lecture (28^th October, 1:00 PM EST): “The Operation of All Wonderfull Things:” Magic and the Occult at McMaster University Library. 

 

Join Myron Groover (McMaster’s Archives and Rare Books Librarian) for an exploration of the philosophical and practical literature of magic in the Western esoteric tradition. Highlights will include several noteworthy items in McMaster’s collections, including a recently acquired first edition of Agrippa’s Three Books of Occult Philosophy, an obscure and heavily annotated 19^th-century copy of the Lesser Key of Solomon, and one of only six known manuscripts of the Liber Visionum — a beguiling medieval synthesis of demonology and Marianism so controversial it was officially suppressed in 1323. 

 

This lecture is part of the Archives Alive series, a suite of public-facing talks which is jointly hosted by the William Ready Division of Archives and Research Collections and McMaster University Alumni.
