In Canada, we can search public collections (mostly museums, university art galleries, etc.) by artist / maker name (and other access points) using the Artefacts Canada tool:
https://app.pch.gc.ca/application/artefacts_hum/indice_index.app?lang=en . Artists do not necessarily have to be Canadian to be included in this resource.

A patron asks, “When you are doing a search to see which museum collections hold a specific artistʻs work, are there any standard search engines? Or do I just surf the net?” Does anyone have a response to this question?
