Hello ARLIS/NA Colleagues,

We’re happy to share the Missouri Remembers: Artists in Missouri through 1951 website documenting Missouri artists with you! The site just launched with 175 entries on Missouri artists, information on 1000s of exhibitions and organizations throughout the state.

Creation of the resource is an ongoing collaborative initiative between three Missouri institutions: The Kansas City Art Institute, The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art and the St. Louis Public Library. NEH funding allowed each of the project partner institutions to hire researchers, who in collaboration with library staff, have spent the last year mining their collections of artists files, archival documentation and publications to create the records for each artist included in the Missouri Remembers website.

While the website includes the stories of iconic Missouri artists like Thomas Hart Benton, one of the goals of the project was to prioritized the stories of artists from under-represented communities including women, artists of color and self-taught artists. The project partners are continuing to research artists and updates will be made regularly to the site.

We hope that this resource will be useful to you and to your users! We have cataloged the site and the record is available here if you’d like to add it to your collection.
