Marlene,

It's also the symbol used for the Stanford White Awards. Perhaps it was his personal coat of arms as an architect? The V-shaped instrument is a reduction compass (architect or freemasonry symbol), the bar it intersects with looks like a straight edge (vs. a t-square in the freemasonry symbol), under the V of the compass is what looks like a lion rampant (typically used in heraldry), all surrounded by a laurel wreath. It's quite the handsome design actually.

Subject: [ARLIS-L] stanford White

I have been asked to find out more information about this image, perhaps a bookplate.  The image appears in the book Stanford White in Detail, published on the frontispiece, which leads me to think that it is a bookplate designed by White … but need to know what it represents or shows.

Any information or sources will be much appreciated.

Thanks
