Letters without spaces are filed as words. "WJCT (Radio station : Jacksonville, Fla.)" would be filed as "wjct radio station jacksonville fla." If you have letters with dots, the dot is filed as a space. "U.S.A. 2012 : after the middle-class revolution" would be filed as "u s a 2012 after the middle class revolution." Some marks of punctuation become spaces (periods and hyphens) and some not (apostrophes). It doesn't matter if the initials are an acronym or an abbreviation; it matters if they are presented as letters with or without spaces or intervening punctuation.

Good Morning,

I am embarrassed to ask this question as I feel that I should know the answer. But I don’t. I hope this isn’t off list.

Here is my question re filing rules:

I have  subject headings for  vertical files that are WJCT (Radio station, Jacksonville, Fla.). Where does   this get filed within general subject heading list? Is WJCT an acronym or abbreviation?

It seems they are treated differently?

TY

Cheers
