Research and Instruction Librarian - Thomas Tredway Library at Augustana College, Rock Island, IL

Job Description:

The Thomas Tredway Library at Augustana College, winner of the ACRL Excellence in Academic Libraries Award, seeks a research and instruction librarian with a passion for teaching and supporting undergraduates, and a commitment to the role of the library in a liberal arts education. This position includes responsibilities as library liaison to the fine and performing arts division (Art, Art History, Communication Sciences and Disorders, Communication Studies, Music, Theatre Arts), direct collaboration with a faculty-led interdisciplinary art exhibition space and future museum/gallery initiatives, as well as the coordinator of displays, events, and outreach for the library. The successful candidate will be a team player who is energetic, motivated, highly organized, skillful in the use of a broad range of information resources and can work with librarians and classroom faculty in developing new approaches to teaching and assessing information literacy.


Augustana College, Rock Island, Illinois, invites applications for a full-time, 10-month schedule Research and Instruction Librarian with primary focus on the Fine and Performing Arts beginning in August of the 2021-2022 academic year.


Duties:

  1.  Provides reference and research assistance to students, faculty, staff, and others to include
evening and weekend on-call shifts on a rotating basis as scheduled.
  2.  Collaborates with faculty to plan and deliver course integrated library instruction.
  3.  Collaborates with art faculty to facilitate interdisciplinary exhibition space and museum/gallery initiatives in the library and Gerber Center.
  4.  Provides collection development in fine and performing arts, zines, graphic novels and other
areas as needed.
  5.  Creates and maintains research guides.
  6.  Instructs and supervises one outreach student employee.
  7.  Demonstrates a commitment to access, equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  8.  Stays current on social media trends and manages the library's social media accounts.
  9.  Coordinates displays and events for the library, collaborating with student groups and faculty, as well as preparing displays specific to the library collections.
  10. Maintains current professional and technical knowledge through on-going reading, training, and participation in professional organizations.
  11. Serves on college committees, task forces and other groups.
  12. Other duties as assigned.

Preferred:

  1.  An academic background or interest in fine and performing arts, art exhibition, and/or
communication studies
  2.  A background or interest in art-library collaborations involving interdisciplinary exhibition
space and museum/gallery initiatives

Requirements:

  1.  MLS from an ALA accredited program (or equivalent), or expected completion of the degree
by August 2021.
  2.  Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  3.  Ability to effectively teach students in both classroom and one-on-one settings.
  4.  Ability to work successfully in a collaborative team environment.
  5.  Ability to build and sustain key relationship with a diverse group of library users.
  6.  Ability to design and arrange exhibits.
  7.  Ability to set priorities and meet deadlines.
  8.  Experience with, or a demonstrated willingness and ability to learn, an integrated library
system, information databases, standard productivity software and web editing software.
  9.  Desire to work in a student-centered liberal arts environment.
  10. Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift 25 pounds on a frequent basis.
