Dear colleagues, ARLIS/NA Members:

We are pleased to invite you to join us for the series of lectures that I am organizing in collaboration with the Mexican association Colegio Nacional de Bibliotecarios (CNB).

Cycle of talks Márgenes: editorialidad independiente en América Latina

The National College of Librarians (CNB) presents to the library community in Mexico a series of talks on the dynamics and practices of contemporary publishing that take place in the margins or outside the conventional circuits of the publishing industry. The event will share panoramas of local scenarios in different parts of Latin America, bringing together the confluence of visions, concerns and ways of producing communities and knowledge gathered in the independent and self-managed publishing sphere.

The following axes are considered as the starting points for the development of the talks in which young publishers and other agents that are part of the emerging community of independent publishing in Mexico and elsewhere in Latin America will participate:

- Beyond bibliology: panoramas and contemporary concepts for thinking about publishing.
- Out of the podium: publishing as an act of resistance.
- Logotopías: Socialization, spaces and reading experiences.
- Neither marginal, nor conventional: independent publishing as an information resource.

VERY IMPORTANT: The lectures are in Spanish, we do not have the possibility of having simultaneous translators. However, I think it is important to share this initiative with all of you.

The first talk of the cycle  Más allá de la bibliología: panoramas y conceptos contemporáneos para pensar las publicaciones will be held next Friday, April 23, from 12:00 to 14:30 hrs. (Mexico City time).

Panelists
  • Alfonso Santiago, Coordinador Editorial de ESPAC/Piedra Ediciones (Mexico city)
  • Natalia Silberleib, Estudio Un Libro es un Libro (Buenos Aires, Argentina)
  • Cecilia Arbolave, Fundadora de Banca Tatuí y Sala Tatuí (São Paulo, Brazil)
  • Darío Marroche, Estudio microutopías  (Montevideo, Uruguay)

The panelists will present their initiatives and share their positions on the concept of independent publishing in their respective contexts.

This is a free and open access activity through the CNB's Youtube channel:

As usual in Mexico, there is the possibility of prior registration at the following link for the purposes of 'proof of' attendance:

Finally, I hope that some of you will be able to join us, it will be a pleasure to exchange conversation on the subject later on.

Best regards,
