The Evolution of Anime Art: Understanding the Impact of Diversity and Gatekeeping
Friday, Apr. 23, 2021 from noon to 1:30 p.m.
Anime is not new, but it has become quite popular in the United States in the past few years. Virginia Commonwealth University's Office of Multicultural Student Affairs will host an in-depth look at how anime art has evolved over time to include more racially diverse populations and the impact this has had in popularizing the entertainment form. The session will also explore how this popularization has opened the door to gatekeeping and its effect on fans who are people of color.
