Dear Colleagues,
I wanted to highlight a program that one of our wonderful Southern California chapter members, Simone Fujita, is participating in this Friday 2/19 in association with a virtual exhibition, The
Black Index, happening virtually here at UC Irvine! The exhibition is curated by Professor Bridget R. Cooks (Associate Professor in the Department of African American Studies and Art History). Bridget has
been an incredible collaborator and kind colleague since I came to UC Irvine in 2019, and she is an extremely brilliant curator. I highly recommend taking the time to experience these works and the show virtually if you can. Registration for this particular
program is free!
Sincerely,
-Jenna

Join bibliographer Simone Fujita and curator Krystal Tribbett for a conversation about the role of libraries and archives in indexing Black creative thought and resistance. Fujita and Tribbett discuss the responsibilities of institutions
to collect and preserve materials from Black artists and social movements. This conversation is in association with The Black Index, an online exhibition curated
by Bridget R. Cooks on view at the Contemporary Art Center Gallery at the University of California, Irvine: https://www.theblackindex.art/.
Organized by Bridget R. Cooks, Ph.D., associate professor in the Department of African American Studies and Department of Art History (UCI) in partnership with Getty Research Institute's African American Art History Initiative, this
event is made possible in part through the generous support of the University of California Humanities Research Institute. Beginning January 14, experience the virtual exhibition The Black Index, and purchase the related catalog.
This event is in association with The Black Index: Artists in Conversation.
