Even if you are not a cataloguer or metadata manager please do read this concise (3 page) document. It is particularly pertinent to discussions regarding DEI in information work and is designed to align with CILIPs Ethical Framework.

This work began in January 2018 and was significantly informed by the findings of six functional Working Groups in 2019 and two rounds of public consultation and presentations by CESC members at events in the USA, Canada and the UK during 2020.

The Steering Committee acknowledges and appreciates the contributions of the Working Groups and the many people who commented on the draft versions.

This Final Version will be presented to the professional associations (ALA, CILIP, CFLA-FBCA) that originally supported the formation and work of the CESC for endorsement.

The Steering Committee encourages you to read through the Code and become familiar with the contents, which includes important contextual information in the "Introduction" "Definitions" and "Scope" sections in addition to the “Statements of Ethical Principles."

The Committee will be issuing a call for case studies to illustrate the practical application of the “Statements of Ethical Principles”.
