Archivist

The Wexner Center for the Arts (WCA) seeks an Archivist to develop and lead its institutional archive, a unique set of assets featuring thousands of items, in analog and digital formats, from the center’s 31-year multidisciplinary history. The Archivist would be responsible for working cross-departmentally and with the Wex director on vision and priorities, and to prepare and train staff in metadata, records retention, and other aspects, while also developing policies and guidelines for capturing and documenting activities going forward. In addition, the Archivist will be expected to work closely with the web team to ensure access and searchability, and to collaborate with Wex leadership as well as partners across the University, in the community, and in the field for maximum impact, dissemination, and accessibility. The center is focused on ensuring that digital (both born-digital and digitized) and analog materials that have been and will be produced here are preserved and continue to be available for future generations.

 

Required Qualifications       

• Master’s Degree in library science, information science, or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience
• 3-5 years of experience in cultural heritage (library, archives, museum) environments
• Demonstrated knowledge of digital preservation standards and best practices
• Strong understanding and practice managing born-digital materials/digital asset management
• Knowledge of archival theory and practice
• Experience developing and implementing policy and procedures documents
• Knowledge of copyright and intellectual property rights, and permissions issues related to cultural heritage materials
• Excellent project management skills, including planning/scoping, budgeting, tracking tasks, meeting deadlines
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Experience supervising/managing staff, students, volunteers
• Ability to work both independently and part of team/group and with external partners
• Strong research, analytical, and problem-solving skills

• Interest in museums and contemporary arts preferred
