Greetings. We at the National Gallery of Art (Washington) have been receiving small-format Sotheby’s catalogs. I called them to ask if these were “full” catalogs that we should accession as I also had heard that they no longer print catalogs and have cancelled subscriptions. I was told that they are producing a very limited number of these smaller catalogs to send gratis to some clients, including major museums. These contain everything that a normal catalog would, although there is now a lot of supplementary content that is only online. We are cataloging all of the ones we receive. Hard to know what is or is not being printed, and what we can rely on receiving in the way of complimentary copies sent to curators if subscriptions are no longer possible.
