Save the date! The Academic Division will host our next open forum on Wednesday, December 9 from 3 pm to 4 pm EST. The hour-long open forum will center around antiracism and academic art libraries. Use the following Zoom link to join the meeting:

Libraries:
  • What (if anything) has your library done to be an antiracist institution?
  • Who are the groups in your libraries working toward racial equity? How could you support these groups working to reduce disparities?
  • How does white cultural dominance impact people of color in your library – students, employees, and patrons? What kind of culture shift is needed?
  • In what way do you benefit from and perpetuate the status quo and how do you disrupt it?
  • How is valuing difference foundational to the mission of our profession?
Academic Institutions:
  • Is your institution having conversations around antiracism?
  • Who are the groups in your institution or community working toward racial equity? How could you support these groups working to reduce disparities?
  • What steps could you take to increase a shared understanding of bias, racism, and racial equity in your institutions?
  • How does white cultural dominance impact people of color in your institution – employees and students? What kind of culture shift is needed?
  • What challenges do you face at your institution towards a more equitable and antiracist environment?
Action Steps:
  • What topics or decisions at your institution call for a Racial Equity Assessment?
  • How could you develop a clear racial equity vision?
