Hi there!
This Wednesday, August 5, 3pm EDT/noon PDT, the Museum Library Division is going to continue the conversation we started in mid-June regarding museum library reopening considerations. You can find information about our Division, including how to join our listserv, within our ARLIS/NA webpage<https://www.arlisna.org/organization/divisions/93-museum-division>. The Zoom link information is at the end of the email.
We'll jump in fairly quickly to the break rooms to ensure participants have enough time for a full discussion - hopefully 10/15 min for each topic - and then about 10/15 minutes for open discussion at the end. The top 3 topics from the survey included:
1. Staff access to materials - What is your library doing to provide staff access to library materials and online resources? What challenges are you experiencing? How have you worked around limited ILL capabilities? Have you had to change circulation policies or other access procedures during this time of closure? Would you be able and willing to share those documents in the chat?
2. Staff scheduling and new workflows - If library staff is able to return to the building, how is scheduling being handled or coordinated? What are beneficial work from home projects for staff not returning to the library? How are you anticipating the transition to more on-site work? Does staff feel comfortable returning to work and how are safety concerns addressed?
3. Considerations of having the public reenter the library - When will you expect your library to reopen to the public? What safety precautions are being planned? How will staffing the reference desk work? How will public services be limited? How do you anticipate communicating/managing these expectations with the public? How is your library working with your Museum's reopening team?
