Nailed the URL structure and logic to clicking on a topic and having the system show all collections sharing the same subject; likewise, added the URL programming for clicking on results and loading full collection details. Download video at bottom to see this
in action.
-
Looking like URL patterns will be the following:
-
/collections (show all collections)
-
/collections/1, 2, etc (show details for a single collection; numbers might be replaced with something more meaningful)
-
/collections/browse (browse all collections)
-
/collectors/browse (browse all collectors)
-
/collections/browse/subjects/places, topics, names, etc /1, 2, etc to browse collections by subject (numbers might be replaced with something more meaningful)
-
/collections/browse/special_formats (browse collections by formats such as scrapbooks, CD-Rs, etc.
-
/collections/browse/collection_location (browse by physical location of the collection)
-
Data model pretty solid now with two major tables: collectors and collections. Each collector can have multiple collections, but a single collection can have only one owner. Easy operation to change owners of a collection. Within both models, there are several
many-to-many fields allowing something like institution type to have multiple values, likewise each value can be connected to multiple institutions. Same is true of other fields like special formats, and all subjects fields.
-
Added a quote/tagline field with related attribution field to accommodate an interesting quotable about the collection; field helps spice up the collection details display
-
Continuing to tweak CSS flexbox for allowing content to stretch and contract better
-
Added content update dates to collector and collections records (I want these dates to be very visible so users see how "fresh" the info is)
-
Planning on a feature where the person who creates the entry gets an email update on some kind of schedule to remind them to review content
-
Attaching Django admin views of creating a collection, collector, and subject city. Admin screens are behind the scenes and will not face the person creating these entries. Those screens have yet to be developed, nor has related authentication been added.
-
Would SO welcome reviewers to look at these input screens and share any issues
FYI, the system accommodates both institutional collections and private/personal collections. I am hoping with the right promotion, we can leverage the directory to uncover many of these great collection assembled by curators, professors,
scholars, as well as help connect those collections with institutions that might acquire them at some point.
