Seems like a form versus function and function versus form kind of topic.

In the Drawings + Documents Archive at Ball State, we had one architect in particular who would perform surveys on people’s behavior and then design a building afterwards based on those needs.  We are physically closed, but there is an online lecture on the topic in our collections https://dmr.bsu.edu/digital/collection/CAPLectures/id/14/rec/2.   There have been a good few books published on this discussion.

I would type in ‘form versus function architecture’ as a search term.  There will be lots of results.

‘House Thinking’ might also be a good one https://www.amazon.com/House-Thinking-Room-Room-Look/dp/0060538805 .

Hope this helps,

Subject: [ARLIS-L] Behavioral Design Question

Hello all,

I'm working with a student who is researching behavioral design -- how design affects people's choices day to day -- and we're having a hard time coming up with resources. I'm wondering if there's alternative terminology to describe his research topic that we're both just not thinking of (thanks to COVID-19 brain!), and thought I'd reach out to the collective wisdom. Any advice or thoughts welcome!

Thank you all,

Anna
