Dear Debbie,

It is difficult to find words to add to the well-deserved praise that has already been expressed by your many colleagues who clearly and rightly hold you in such high esteem. You are a consummate professional and exemplary leader. The libraries you have worked for, ARLIS/NA, and the entire world of art librarianship owe you a debt of gratitude that will only become even more apparent as you step back from your intensely active participation. (But not too far back I hope.)

What has not been said enough is just how much fun it has been to spend time with you, either in professional settings where your grace, humor, and good sense make even the dullest meetings productive and a pleasure to attend, or by just getting together for lunch when the conversation is always a restorative mix of work, gossip, and reviews of cultural events. (Now maybe we can also have that glass of wine we so often wanted.)

I wish you and Andre all the best as you take full advantage of extra time for more long walks and, when it becomes possible again, more travel and even more concerts and plays.

With my warmest regards,

Daniel

Dear Debbie,

I find it difficult to think of ARLIS/NA without thinking of you. Thank you for all you’ve done for art libraries and art librarians over the years, both in North America and internationally.

Warmest wishes always,

Kathleen

Subject: [ARLIS-L] Another Baby Boomer retires

To all my colleagues and friends at ARLIS/NA,

Yes, it's true. After nearly 25 years in my post at the Frick Art Reference Library, I will retire on May 1.
From the moment I landed in New York City many years ago, ARLIS/NA has been an important part of my professional life. Urged to join by my boss at New York University, I attended my first ARLIS/NA conference, coincidentally held in NYC, in 1986, and until this year, never missed a single annual conference.  The benefits of professional development and contacts gained through my membership in ARLIS/NA have been integral to my career at every step, from NYU, to Avery Library at Columbia University, and finally, to the Frick, where I was so lucky to land and flourish.  In addition, like so many of you, I've formed lifelong friendships with individuals with whom I have so much in common.

I was sorry to miss this year's conference in my home state of Missouri, but I remain hopeful to see many of you next year in Montreal.  I'll stay involved and will continue to support this important organization.

Warm regards to all,
Debbie
