Dear All,

The following email-discussion forum may be of interest. The ALCTS/PARS
Preservation Standards & Practices Committee (PS&P) was asked to consider
preservation core competencies this year. To that end, we organized this
spring e-Forum; with the plan of furthering the discussion at ALA Annual in
the summer. Since our online work environment is so important now, and
since the American Library Association’s annual conference has been
canceled; it would be especially helpful to hear your voices on this topic
as your time and interest allow.

All the best,

Karen

(Co-chair, PS&P)

*ALCTS e-Forum: Core Competencies for Preservation Professionals*

April 14-15, 2020

*Moderated by Beth Doyle, Martha Horan, and Ian Bogus*

Please join us for an e-forum discussion. It’s free and open to everyone!

Registration information is at the end of the message.

Each day, discussion begins and ends at:

Pacific: 7 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Mountain: 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Central: 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Eastern: 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.

Just as the preservation profession has evolved, the range of skills needed
to perform preservation, conservation, and overall preservation management
functions have expanded. This e-Forum will initiate a profession-wide
conversation to articulate the core competencies of the contemporary
preservation professional. As preservation programming is a continued
strategic investment, this discussion will provide insight to individuals
exploring preservation as a profession and to administrators considering
hiring a preservation professional.

*What Is an e-Forum?*

An ALCTS e-forum provides an opportunity for librarians to discuss matters
of interest, led by a moderator, through the e-forum discussion list. The
e-forum discussion list works like an email listserv: register your email
address with the list, and then you will receive messages and communicate
with other participants through an email discussion. Most e-forums last two
to three days. Registration is necessary to participate, but it's free.
