It certainly has been put into sharp focus arts publishing's deficiencies in digital publishing. Perhaps one silver lining coming out of all this will be a stronger movement in arts publishing towards ebook publishing and open access. Wouldn't THAT be cool. Perhaps there's a role for ARLIS/NA in this that we can consider more clearly when the dust settles.

Subject: [ARLIS-L] Sharing LibGuides with free resources during COVID-19 closures

Dear colleagues,

As I know we are all working on similar problems right now, I thought I would share the libguides I have been developing with additional, vetted, free resources that might help our students while our physical libraries are closed.  As I am teaching our MA students' Methods of Research/Thesis and Capstone Proposal course, it has become abundantly clear how much we still depend on our physical collections and limiting digital resources, even the best, actually are, I have found a few free sources most useful.  The Internet Archives's Open Library is surprisingly good with art titles and exhibition catalogues, and they have waived all waiting lists through June 30 or the end of the Social Distancing period, which ever is later.  You only need register for a free account.  The MCN's ultimate guide is also excellent.  I had previously prepared a vetted guide for our non-degree programs that also has some excellent resources.  All are available through the COVID-19 box on our library's homepage: https://sia.libguides.com/nylibraryhome.  Please feel free to use, adapt, etc.  Would love suggestions of resources to add for graduate level resources available for free that others have identified.

Just figured that as we are all in this together, we shouldn't all be duplicating each other's work!

Stay well and best wishes,

Eric
